Grove Company Overview

Grove Tea Lounge serves the finest responsibly sourced teas, Michigan-roasted coffee & fresh, locally handcrafted food in Midland. Grove came about because two local families saw a need for a community space to celebrate quality tea (brewed to perfection every time), an excellent cup of coffee, and some awesomely nutritious (and occasionally indulgent!) eats. We have created a space where our tea drinking friends can bring their coffee drinking friends and each find something that excites them.

They focus on engaging with our customers, delivering the Grove brand, and keeping up with the daily tea lounge functions.

Qualifications (All Positions)

The ideal candidate will:

Barista Responsibilities

What does it take to be a successful Barista?

In addition to modeling Grove’s culture and values and following policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Delivering Engaging Customer Service

  • Welcomes customers to the cafe, engaging with them throughout their cafe experience

  • Determines customer needs by asking questions and sharing product knowledge

  • Demonstrates that customers come first by serving them with a sense of urgency and respect.

Delivering Operational Excellence

  • Prepares and sells tea and coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for each to ensure consistent quality.

  • Participates actively in training to learn new and promotional products. Continually works to expand product knowledge of tea and coffee as well as our seasonally rotating menu of food and pastries.

  • Maintains a clean and well-stocked store.

  • Maintains inventories by replenishing tea and coffee supply; stocking brewing equipment and cups as needed; maintaining supplies, pastries, salads, and ingredients in our food service area.

  • Prepares and assembles food in an efficient and high-quality fashion: synonymous with Grove’s standard of practice.

  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; informing Shift Leaders or owners of any maintenance needs.

  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.

Baker Responsibilities

What does it take to be a successful Baker?

In addition to modeling Grove’s culture and values and following policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Taking inventory of ingredients & finished products

  • Developing prep schedule/grocery lists based on inventory

  • Maintaining sanitation standards: Comply with Health Department, Deep clean equipment & work space, Dishes

  • Food purchasing

  • Interpreting & following recipes, complete prep list

  • Arranging finished products in the display case and prep station

  • Communicating with Shift Leaders & the rest of the team throughout the day/week in order to better prioritize production demands

  • Occasionally testing new recipes

  • Tracking waste

  • Flexing mid-shift to quickly replenish food during a rush if we stock out

Shift Leader Responsibilities

Executes Store Operations During Scheduled Shifts

  • Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues

  • Communicates information to the Lounge Manager & Owners so that the team can respond as necessary to create a positive environment

  • Assist in new barista training by reinforcing successful performance as well as giving respectful and encouraging coaching

  • Executes store operations during scheduled shifts. Organizes opening and closing duties as assigned. Follows Groves policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all employees each shift

  • Prepares and assembles food in an efficient and high-quality fashion; synonymous with Grove’s standard of practice

  • Keeps equipment functioning properly by following operating instructions; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; informing owners of any maintenance needs

  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards, health code and sanitation regulations
